Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
At Ulladulla Public School, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive and culturally rich learning environment that celebrates and honours the heritage, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and First Nations peoples. We are deeply committed to providing educational experiences that authentically embed First Nations perspectives across all stages of learning, ensuring every student develops a strong connection to local people, places, and cultural knowledge.
Our curriculum integrates First Nations histories, languages, and cultures, brought to life through on-Country experiences and engagement with significant local sites and artefacts. These meaningful opportunities enable students to build a profound understanding and respect for the land and its traditional custodians, enriching their learning journey in authentic and memorable ways.
Central to our support framework is close collaboration with families, our dedicated Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO), and classroom teachers. Together with parents and carers, we develop Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) tailored to each Aboriginal student’s unique strengths, needs, and learning goals. This personalised approach ensures targeted support, ongoing monitoring, and meaningful student progress towards educational success.
Our school is proudly united with the Wandarma Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), actively participating in and hosting community meetings to strengthen partnerships and collaborate on local projects. This dynamic partnership enhances Aboriginal education not only at Ulladulla Public School but across the broader community of schools.
We offer a rich array of cultural programs and experiences, including traditional music and dance workshops, opportunities for knowledge sharing and storytelling with Elders and key community stakeholders, and exposure to the Dhurga language. Our strong, enabling relationship with the Local Aboriginal Lands Council supports ongoing community engagement and provides authentic opportunities for students to connect deeply with culture, people and country.
Additionally, we collaborate with external cultural organisations such as Gadhungal Marring to offer students enriching and genuine cultural experiences that contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
At Ulladulla Public School, we are committed to nurturing cultural pride, academic achievement, and wellbeing for all Aboriginal and First Nations students, alongside creating a welcoming, respectful environment for our entire school community.
