Premier's Debating Challenge - State finalists

Ulladulla Public Five debating team

This week, Ulladulla Public Five, had the pleasure of participating in the state final knockout rounds of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. On Wednesday, our team met our opponents, Queanbeyan South Public School via Zoom link. The topic that “All advertising aimed at kids should be banned” was chosen with Ulladulla drawing the negative side. The debate was fierce. Both teams presented strong arguments with the final outcome a close call, but Ulladulla emerged victorious, defeating Queanbeyan South.

Our second round of the state final followed quickly on Friday morning against Mt Terry Public School. The topic was a tricky one: “Bullies should be named and shamed at school assemblies.” Ulladulla this time drew the affirmative side of the debate. Each team presented great arguments which were fiercely squashed by the opposite team. The debate was ferocious with another close score, however this time Ulladulla, sadly, was defeated.

We thank our teachers Mrs Green and Mrs Edwards for their support and hard work. We also thank our families for their support and help getting to different debate locations throughout this competition.
