Rosie entered the National Edstart awards with a submission in the Sustainability & Environment category to introduce 'Beach Borrow Boxes' to our local beaches. The borrow boxes would make available toys, such as shovels and buckets, accessible to everyone, negating the need for visitors to bring their own and eliminating plastic toys being abandoned on the beach.
The goals outlined in Rosie's plan were to
- remove plastic from our beaches
- stop the need for more plastic toys to be manufactured, and to reuse existing plastic
- give all kids and adults toys to enjoy at the beach
Rosie's win comes with a $1500 grant which will allow Rosie to begin her project. Rosie's passion for looking after the environment is inspirational and we look forward to following her progress in to the future.
Congratulations Rosie!
